This book was written by a high school classmate of mine, Carol Neves. Carol seems to have good insight about the suffering related to being bipolar, its affect on those around the bipolar person, and what needs to be done help the person. I read the book in a few days and have already passed it along to a friend who is is getting an MS degree in psychology. I did notice that Carol's writing did improve as she progressed. Something I have learned as a writer myself is that it is preferable to show what happened rather than to tell it. One way to do this is to have the characters engage in revealing conversations. This book could use a bit more conversations. All in all, I did like the book and found it very interesting. I would recommend Bipolar Blues.Corinne M.

Bipolar Blues Carol Neves 9781477405536 Books Reviews
This is a great first novel that offers amazing insights into the accomplishments, failures, and tragedies of a family dealing with mental illness through four generations. Sometimes the emotional descriptions took my breath away. It is an easy read with no medical jargon although it was written by a mental health clinician. The story of this family offers understanding and hope to families dealing with this debilitating illness. Would have been five stars but I was left wishing for more in this short book.
